Les Granges aux Cerfs is our rural French holiday home comprising of two detached properties, La Grange and La Petite Grange, both of which are modern converted stone barns combined with many original rustic features.
Les Granges aux Cerfs
Our charming spacious barn, La Grange offers four double bedrooms, two lounges and a kitchen diner. La Grange oozes character with exposed beams, high ceilings, a log burner and stone walls. Full length windows let light flood into the barn accentuating the wonderful features. Accommodating up to ten people, La Grange is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a relaxing break.
Set in extensive grounds boasting a heated pool, from May until September, there are sunbeds and parasols on the surrounding tiled patio. There are outdoor garden games for all the family in addition to table football to enjoy inside.
La Petite Grange is a delightful one bedroom cottage with open plan kitchen/living room. A day bed could be used for extra guests if required. The king size bedroom is upstairs with low beams on each side, with the bathroom next door. There is a toilet downstairs with basin and a hallway with storage. Perfect for weekends or short breaks.
Our pleasant village, Aulnay, offers a market two times a week. You will also find an independent boulangerie and patisserie, a post office and a few banks. In the village square is Le Neuf, a restaurant available for lunch, dinner or coffee using locally sourced ingredients with an ever changing menu. The village is a short drive or an enjoyable walk across the sunflower fields. Alternatively, you can use the bicycles we have available. The nearby Intermarche (supermarket) is open all week and on a Sunday morning. It stocks everything from fresh baguettes, meat and vegetables to electrical goods and sun cream! The adjoining Petrol station is available 24/7.
The coast is just an hour away and the lively vibrant towns of Saintes, St Jean D'Angeley, and La Rochelle are within driving distance. The delightful islands Île D'Ré and Île D'Oléron also offer great days out for everyone.

Welcome Pack

Heated pool for with Roman steps. A safety cover is provided to comply with French Law

There are two adult bikes and two junior bicycles available to borrow during your stay

WiFi is available in the house, however connection cannot be guaranteed
Complimentary Toiletries
A welcome pack of toiletries will be left in the two upstairs bathrooms
Towels
A bath and hand towel will be provided for every person staying at La Grange. Pool towels are available for €5

Things to See and Do
La Rochelle
A place to people watch and relax by the marina or shop until you drop in the stone side streets! There are numerous restaurants and bars, an aquarium, ancient city walls and historic towers to enjoy.
Cognac
Renowned for brandy, Cognac is situated on both sides of the Charente river. This town has also preserved some historic houses, buildings and monuments.
Saintes
Only half an hour away is the historic town of Saintes, with Roman Amphitheatre and Abbaye aux Dames. Enjoy a boat trip or river cruise on the Charente. Saintes also has a huge daily market (except Mondays).
Poitiers
An alternative to La Rochelle for flights! Historic town with beautiful gardens. Town square with plenty of bars and restaurants.
Île de Ré
The pretty harbour town of La Flotte is a great way to start a visit to the Island. Bike hire is available and definitely the way to explore with safe cycle paths everywhere.
Marias Poitevin
These renowned waterways are approximately 50 minutes from us. Hire bikes or take a canal boat to discover the surrounding landscape.
Chatelaillon Plage
This is one of our favourites. 3 km of beach with a promenade for walking and cycling. Life guards survey selected areas.
Fouras
Fouras offers three beaches and a fortress, Fort Vauban to discover. Plenty of restaurants and shops to entertain everyone.
Île D'Oleron
I'le D'Oleron's, Grande Plage is for strong swimmers as the waves can be rough but great family fun. Life guards survey an area of beach and sea.

August Aulnay stay Lovely, well renovated property, perfect for a quiet, relaxing family holiday after a busy year. We found plenty to do with two teenagers in the local area and further afield but also had some great days 'at home' relaxing, swimming, playing cards and games. Loads of space for us all to spread out, perfect garden for eating out and bbq. Well equipped kitchen and some lovely welcome goodies too. Just what we were looking for.
